Out With the Old, in With the New

After living in San Diego for a semester of school, moving back home to Oak Park(California), and spending my last couple years at Moorpark College, I decided I needed to make a change.  I knew that living at home was not a good idea anymore, and I felt as if my life was stuck.  My life needed something new, something refreshing.  The idea of moving to Israel had always been in the back of my mind.  Since my family roots are from Israel, this country has always been known as my second home.  Overnight, I decided to take action.  As soon as the Fall semester ended, I packed my bags, and took the next flight to Israel.  I am now living with two roommates, in a small city in Israel.  Although I have only been here for a few weeks, I can honestly conclude that this is one of the best decisions I have ever made.  I have a job, I have met a ton of new people already, and I am transferring to a university out here which I am starting in a few months.  Besides my immediate family (mother, father, and brother), I have no connection with any cousins, aunts, and uncles in California.  Since I have been here, I can finally sense what it feels like to have a family that constantly checks up on me and helps me out with anything that I need.  I have a close relationship with my cousins as well, and they have become my best friends.  Although I don't have the luxury of having a car or having my mom cook and clean for me, I love the fact that I am on my own.  I am extremely independent and I know that this stage of my life will only help me grow as a person and gain many experiences.  I think it is very important to expand your mind and to be open to new challenges however hard they may seem.  Taking on new experiences helps build character as well as growth and maturity.
